Who are the Gallatin Eagles?
The Gallatin Eagles is a non-profit organization dedicated to promotion and enjoyment of the sport of model aircraft building and flying. Our club serves the greater Gallatin Valley and includes members from as far away as Livingston and West Yellowstone. We interact with other Montana clubs in cities such as Billings, Butte, Missoula, Helena, Great Falls and as far away as Miles City. We offer free flight training for new members using a buddy box system with an emphasis on having fun in a safe manner.
Our typical club membership is about 40 individuals. Currently our youngest member is 12 and our oldest member is over 70 – a pretty broad span. We have a number of father/son combinations that build and fly, a great way to spend quality time with your kids.
Most people involved with flying model aircraft have a general interest in aviation. Several of our former members have gone on to become airplane pilots. Our membership includes retired Air Force, commercial pilots, engineers, and a lot of average people who are fascinated with anything that flys. We are a diverse group, with members involved in all facets of model aviation. We fly Park models, Micro, Scale, Sport, Combat, Giant Scale, Aerobats, multi-engine, Gliders, Electric, Gas, Glow, and helicopters.
Our club is active in the community. We have provided aeronautical presentations and flight demonstrations for a number of schools, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and have provided a class in aeronautics for the 4-H in Bozeman. We have also provided a display for the Aviation Conference held by the Montana Department of Transportation in Bozeman and provided planes to support a feature film shot in the Bozeman area.
